A (relatively) short walk from my last stop and I’m visiting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS).
ATSICHS Brisbane provides health and human services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in greater Brisbane and Logan. With their head office in Woolloongabba and offices and clinics throughout Brisbane and Logan, they provide medical and dental clinics, child and family health services, youth services, social and emotional wellbeing programs and services, a midwifery hub, an aged care facility, and a variety of family and child support services including child protection, family wellbeing services, kindergarten programs and a child and family centre.
Of particular note is ATSICHS’ commitment to the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of the LGBTQI+ community. They have developed a high quality training and education program designed to build a competent and inclusive workforce that is knowledgeable and responsive to the lived experiences of LGBTQI+ people, and are also working towards developing this training for other community controlled health organisations.
If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in or around Brisbane, chances are ATSICHS has a service ready to provide you with the care you need close by. Find out more via their website: https://atsichsbrisbane.org.au/
At least one more place to visit before I’m done for today!
