Round the corner and I’m visiting with Apunipima Cape York Health Council.
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) providing comprehensive general medical care to eleven Cape York communities. They also facilitate four social and emotional Wellbeing centres in Cape York: Aurukun Wellbeing Centre, Coen Wellbeing Centre, Mossman Gorge Wellbeing Centre and Hope Vale Wellbeing Centre. Services at these centres include counselling, therapy, support, advocacy, referrals to other services and programs & information sessions.
Apunipima is also involved in population health with a focus on nutrition, smoking, and research. In particular they welcome the opportunity to work with researchers on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues to strengthen research capacity, improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and empower Cape York communities to reach their full potential.
If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in Cape York, or a researcher in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, find out what Apunipima can do for you by visiting their website: https://www.apunipima.org.au/
Heading back up the street to another stop while I’m in Cairns.
