Walk the Talk Reaches Gidgee Healing

It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally reached Normanton and Gidgee Healing.

Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHO) providing a range of health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Normanton and North West region of Queensland, with services available in Normanton, Mount Isa, Doomadgee and Mornington Island. These services include general medical, nursing, Aboriginal Health Workers, allied health including podiatry, physiotherapy, dietetics, exercise physiology, speech therapy, sports psychology, and occupational therapy, Maternal and Child Health providers, Family Wellbeing services and visiting Medical Specialists.

Gidgee also facilitates several health related programs including:

  • Nukal Murra Health Support Services assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with chronic diseases by providing a range of medical equipment and transport solutions;
  • Headspace Mount Isa – a free health service for young people ages 12 – 25 which includes mental, physical and sexual health, vocational support, drug and alcohol information and educational support;
  • The Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service (NRCWS), which offers a range of treatment programs for people struggling with addiction.

If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in or around the Normanton region, check out Gidgee Healing to see what they can offer you by checking out their website: https://gidgeehealing.com/

This was my last stop in Queensland, and what a journey it’s been! From here I head south west towards the border and start my visits in the Northern Territory!
