Walk the Talk Stops By Children’s Ground

Just a ways down the street and I’m stopping by Children’s Ground.

Children’s Ground is an organisation led by Aboriginal communities which provides a variety of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.

Health specific services provided by Children’s Ground include cultural health systems, maternal, child, and family health promotion, and social and emotional wellbeing. Examples of their health promotion activities include:

  • Teaching healthy routines such as brushing teeth, cleaning sores and washing hands;
  • Physical activity;
  • Developing healthy eating practices by providing nutritious meals and snacks;
  • Spending time on Country; and
  • Creating individual health & wellbeing plans with families.

In 2018, Children’s Ground published Utnenge, Tyerrtye, mwarre atnyenetyeke iltye tyerrtye urrperle – kenhenge: Health in the Hands of the People, a strategic framework which approaches health promotion in a way that privileges and responds to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples communities living with extreme disadvantage.
