Walk the Talk Visits Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation

Last stop while I’m in Tennant Creek and I’m visiting with Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation.

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) provides primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Tennant Creek and four small communities. They achieve this by providing a health service that covers general medical, dental, child and maternal health, women’s health, men’s health, diabetic care and renal care through a combination of medical, allied health and Aboriginal Health Practitioners. They can also access visiting specialists and allied health providers such as cardiac care, audiology, exercise physiologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and podiatrists.

In addition, AHAC’s public health team – Kalpa Purru Wirranjarlki – delivers preventative and educational programs across the health spectrum including chronic diseases, sexual health, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, nutrition and smoking. Their Strong Families team – Piliyintinji-ki - to improve the physical, social and emotional health status of families by focussing on alcohol and other drugs, family violence, counseling and family support. They also assist individuals and families dealing with trauma and grief brought about by the forced separation of children from their families.

If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in Tennant Creek or the Barkly region, find out what AHAC can help you with by checking out their website: https://anyinginyi.org.au/.
