Walk the Talk Reaches Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation

It’s been a while but I’ve finally reached the Eastern tip of the NT and Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation.

Amongst its other community services, Laynhapuy is the sole provider of health services in twenty very remote Homeland communities located through 6500 km² of East Arnhem Land. Laynhapuy Health works to enhance the health and wellbeing of Yolngu people by providing holistic quality primary health care delivered in Homeland communities by culturally competent staff in partnership with people and their communities.

Laynhapuy Health provides outreach services four days per week up to 220 km travelling by 4WD or light aircraft from Yirrkala to deliver planned, prioritised health care, follow up on previous telephone triage and deal with “walk in” appointments and emergencies. They also employ Aboriginal Health Workers who reside in their respective Homelands who provide valued cultural and community connections and liaise with health staff between visits.
